Hello from Winston-Salem NC, home of Foothills Brewing. A very open space in the heart of downtown, the menu and beer selection looked tempting enough to draw me in.
I started with the Hurricane Hefeweizen and the home made potato chips. The hefe was pretty standard with a strong wheaty aroma and golden coloring. The taste of citrus, banana and cloves was just wanted I was looking for. A light body with mild carbonation this was a nice version of a hefe, not amazing by any means but very very drinkable.
With my entree I moved on to the dark amber Pilot Mountain Pale Ale. Sweet malts and alot of hops right up front in the taste, it finishes dry with some citrus and maybe peach overtones. Definitely my favorite of the night.
After that it was on to the Seeing Double IPA. Thick and creamy with a nice head, it goes down very smooth for a beer with 9.5% ABV. It finishes with some lingering bitterness and a hint of citrus. Not bad either.
I really enjoyed Foothills (food and drink) and would recommend it highly if not for the smoking. Yes John I kn ow I am on Tobacco Roas, but this is the 21st century. Could we please refrain from smoking while others are eating around you?
